This video essay deals with the exploitation strategies of the former colonial world powers, which are reproduced today by the privileged elites and ruling classes of the formerly colonized countries in their own territories who reinforce the gentrification process.
Incestuous colonialism describes here the neoliberal practices of wealthy investors in the 21st century. The marginalized and exploited are and remain the local population, the working class who in addition are forced to displaced.
Likewise, so-called „cultural investments“ still play an important role today. In this process, art and culture are instrumentalized and serve to enhance the image of the modern occupiers. A practice called artwashing, in which the negative effects of exploitation are washed clean through art and aesthetics.
